Humans being enveloped by ghosts.

Humans being enveloped by ghosts.

The Human (人間, Ningen) race is a species native to Earth. They are easily corrupted by sin and are the main target of ghosts. Heaven sends angels such as Panty and Stocking down to Earth in order to protect them from danger.

Description

History

The history of the human race in the series is largely identical to its biblical counterpart, except for the small difference of Garterbelt accidentally having intervened in some historical events, such as Adam and Eve's journey as the first humans on Earth, the events of Noah's arc, and even Moses parting the Red Sea. In present times, humans currently thrive in the twenty-first century as they co-exist with animals and supernatural creatures such as angels, demons, and ghosts.

Culture

Similarly to their history, the humans of the PASWG series also have near-identical cultures compared to their real-world counterparts, depending on the location.

In the series' main setting of Daten City, a fictional American metropolis located around the Bay Area in central California, it mostly follows the generic hierarchy of having political authorities. In the first season, Corset masqueraded as the mayor of Daten City. After his demise, his role is seemingly replaced by the role of president of Daten City, which can be acquired by any sentient creature in 24 hours so long as they run as a presidential candidate.

Failure to uphold the law can result in either a minor warning, jail time, or even punishment through electric chair depending on the severity of the crime committed.

Daten City has its own currency called Daten City Dollars; technology-wise, humans have quite the assortment and advancements, but they still pale in comparison to their demonic and angelic counterparts. Human children are also required to go to school, or acquire any form of education if possible.

The existence of the supernatural isn't kept a secret from the general public, and, as such, there are humans who look up to the likes of the angels, those who look up to the demons, or some who can find respect in specific ghosts.

Biology

Humans come in varying skin tones, heights, weights, and sizes. Unlike ghosts, demons, or angels, humans do not all share a predetermined goal and live quite short lifespans.

However, when compared to the aforementioned species, humans are most similar to angels in the sense that both species can easily pass off as each other when the angels decide to keep their halo and wings hidden. Humans are also most similar to that of Gunsmith Bitch's unnamed species, which the series staff hinted at being some type of humanoid alien.

It is also implied by Panty in "Catfight Club" that, similar to human women, angel women also get their monthly period. This is further supported by the fact that Panty is almost always seen having condoms on her when she sleeps around with human men.

Mortality

Humans are fragile creatures and can easily be injured in an assortment of ways. Once (most) humans suffer a lethal enough blow, they will be permanently killed, and their soul either ascends to Heaven or manifests as a grudge or unfulfillment they harbored, turning them into ghosts.

Brief and Garterbelt are the only known exceptions to humanity's otherwise delicate mortality, as they can both withstand and/or be revived from seemingly fatal injuries. While Brief's survivability is unexplained, Garterbelt's diary reveals that the gods punished him for his sins in his first life by making him immortal and forcing him to relive history from the beginning to current times.

Interestingly enough, humans have one advantage over angels, demons, and ghosts, in that they can get shot by angelic and demonic weapons and won't sustain any injuries. This, however, does not apply to godly weapons, as they rank higher than the average angelic weapon and can resultantly cause actual harm to humans.

Humans are also the main target of ghosts, being able to be possessed by them or fuse with them. They also bleed the same red liquid as angels.

Reproduction

Humans, alongside demons, angels, and other earthly mammals, seem to all have a similar reproduction system. It is also revealed at the end of the second season that humans are capable of cross-breeding with angels to make human-angel hybrids, though in the case of Junior (the son of a human, Brief, and an angel, Panty), it is unknown to what extent his aging, vulnerability to angelic and demonic weapons, or powers go.

When Garterbelt fused with the Turtle Ghost in "Mutant Garterbelts", he was able to reproduce with it (despite both of them being males) and create human-ghost hybrid turtles; by the end of said episode, he also created a human-ghost platypus offspring.
